Currency effect calculator — a foreign stock in your currency
How much of a foreign stock's return did you actually keep in your own currency — dollars, euros, pounds, francs or złoty? Pick a ticker, your currency and a start month: stock return vs the currency's move.
Pick a stock quoted in a currency other than yours and we'll split its return into the stock's part and the currency's part. For example: SAP.DE · CDR.PL
total return with dividends, month-end exchange rates, no conversion costs.
In plain words 💡
Buying a stock quoted in another currency means two investments at once: in the company and in that currency 💱. If the stock rose 20% but its currency fell 10% against yours over the same time, in your own money you made only about 8%. It works the other way too — a strong foreign currency can rescue a weak year on the market.
The formula is simple: (1 + stock return) × (1 + change in the rate) − 1. The calculator shows how much of the result came from the company and how much from the currency. Pick the currency you count in — dollars, euros, pounds, Swiss francs or złoty — under "My currency".
Keep in mind ⚠️
We use month-end rates with no broker or exchange-office spread — in practice every conversion costs something. This is history, not a currency forecast.
